Harmonizing 18th-century literati culture with ZEN philosophy,
our Sencha tea ceremonies were created by the buddhist monk Baisao.
The world of Japanese Sencha originated with Coungou Tea from the Ming Dynasty of China (1368 – 1644).
The culture of tea ceremonies was brought to Japan during the Edo Period (1603 – 1867),
were it spread among the literati and developed into Japan’s Sencha tea tradition a mixture of the relaxed Chinese tea culture and the intricate Japanese easthetic sense.
